Dior, “The Black Swan” “Closer” and “The Professional”- It’s Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is a household name, whether you have seen her in a Dior makeup or perfume ad, a movie or a magazine headline. She is a graceful and poignant actress, as well as a fashion presence. Natalie Portman was born in Israel and immigrated to the US, at a young age. She is the daughter of a reproductive endocrinologist and the family lived in Long Island, New York. Portman has told the story of The Holocaust because many of her relatives died during this dark period. Natalie Portman played a theater role of Anne Frank which is close to her heart and soul. She graduated from Harvard University which added to her experience as an actress and persona. An overachiever, at twelve years old, she played the daughter of a mob figure in her first movie role; “The Professional” as well as her roles in the “Star Wars” series. More movies of varying genres have followed such as; the drama/comedy, “No Strings Attached”. She portrays a busy doctor in a casual relationship, but the character discovers love. The dramas: “Closer” and “The Other Woman” are more mature roles.”Closer”, involves a love triangle, role as a stripper and relationship dynamics.”The Other Woman”, a brilliant look at a torrid affair, miscarriage and a child born out of wedlock. A turning edge role for Portman, “The Black Swan”. Darren Aronofsky’s dark psychological thriller, delves into the actress exploring life as a dancer, in a modern Swan Lake. She married her ballet co star, Benjamin Millepied, from which they have a son, Aleph, and daughter, Amalia. Natalie Portman has almond shaped dark eyes, dark hair and she exudes a sensuality which attracts Dior’s attention. She modeled their makeup, but the perfume ads stand out. Portman has been the face of Miss Dior and Miss Dior Cherie, she captures the scents in a feminine and feline manner. The TV vignette for Dior’s, Absolutely Blooming perfume, shows Portman playing a runway bride ready to walk down the aisle in “the” white wedding dress. She takes off the gown, underneath is a revealing black dress. The mystery man and Portman run through Cap Ferrat on the Cote D’Azur and fly away in a plane, to the background song; “Baby Take A Piece of My Heart”. The newest fragrance, Miss Dior: Rose N’ Roses, shows her posing with a pink rose and matching tulle dress. The heart of the scent, roses from Grasse and Damask, with a love and couture theme in a bottle. The print ad portrays a pink colored perfume, a silver bow on the bottle top and Dior is spelled with pink roses. The alluring video ad has Portman dancing to the lyrics:”I’m gonna swing from the chandelier”, the song: “Chandelier” by Sia. There is a Dior Exhibition in the MOCA in Shanghai and in Japan. One can only guess Portman’s next stop, she is versatile. She has been nominated for three Academy Awards and won Best Actress for “The Black Swan”. In addition, she won two Golden Globes, a BAFTA and a Genesis Award. Other movie stand outs are; Portman’s bio pic of Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, “Jackie”. Natalie was right on point, capturing the portrayal of The First Lady’s demeanor, grief and style. In 2015’s, “A Tale of Love and Darkness”, she writes, directs and acts in an Israeli Hebrew drama, based on Amos Oz’s book about life under the Palestinian Mandate. The film’s main topic, a Polish couple, who has survived The Holocaust and then settles in Israel. Their son reveals the journey through his eyes. Natalie Portman captures an immeasurable chameleon like talent, stay tuned for more.
