Hudson Yards is a new development, beginning at West 34th Street and 11th Avenue. It is a new neighborhood which has gotten media coverage and has attracted New Yorkers and tourists. Developers and architects have planned this complex over the last ten years and it still has a few years until completion. It embodies a culture or some might say a lack of the more “cultured”, but this is subjective. It is a 28 acre site which has been built over The Hudson Yard Railroads, trains still pass underneath and some are still onsite, across the way. It is called Hudson Yards or Manhattan West. One can reach it from the southern end of the High Line or go past the new Javitz Center on The Westside Highway or from the Madison Square Garden area. The main developers are The Related Company, Oxford Properties and Brookfield Developers. The famous architects such as ; Diller, Scofidio and Renfro, Kohn, Pedersen and Fox and The Rockwell Group constructed most of the buildings. Offices such as; Tapestry with Kate Spade, Stuart Weizmann and Coach, L’Oreal and Time Warner occupy business space, but on March 15th, 2019, the Vessel Sculpture and Shops at Hudson Yards opened. The Vessel is a huge copper coated interactive sculpture designed by Thomas Heatherwick and is a centerpiece. One can climb the 2,500 interconnecting steps and see the weblike view from inside, as well as outside, with The Hudson River. The Shops have seven levels of retail, from Cartier to Uniqlo, Neiman Marcus and restaurants from D and D of London’s: Queensyard, Jose Andre’s Little Spanish Mercado and TAK Room by Thomas Keller. There are super modern condos, the first Equinox Hotel and Residences and The Edge, the highest observation deck in the Western Hemisphere. It is a capsule like neighborhood and a tourist destination. One can shop, dine, live, work and observe art instillations. The Shed Performance Center, a multipurpose center, is the star of music, film and gallery displays. Welcome to NY’s birth of a residential, play and work center.
