Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel created one of the most prestigious haute couture houses in the world. Chanel is recognized for its’ double C logo, Parisian chic, handbags, Chanel No. 5 perfume and tweed fringed suits. The brand has evolved with touches of modernity such as; dramatic fashion show settings, alluring ads and designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Chanel’s origins are based in the seaside town of Deauville, France during the early 1900’s. Deauville is a small town in the Normandy region and this locale influenced Coco’s style. The beaches, nautical stripes from sailor shirts, her secret lover, Boy Capel, cabaret shows, pastel skies and bathing suit styles, impacted the initial beginnings of what we know as Chanel. The upcoming movie, “Deauville”, is a portrayal of the French seaside town in 1913 and  illustrates Coco Chanel’s experiences and design roots acquired from her time spent here. It is a far cry from Paris and the more cosmopolitan Chanel company which exists today, yet elements from this era and her personal time spent there, still echo within the brand.
